Recently first-ever 3D sensor for mobile devices has been launched on Kickstarter by a San Francisco based company. The company has been focusing on computer vision-bases applications since long.

This invention consists of a structure sensor which once attached to a mobile device opens new ways of 3D scanning. Users will be able to use mobile 3D applications in a wide perspective and 3D modeling of interior spaces will become fairly possible.

This means you can capture 3D maps of indoor spaces and have every measurement in your pocket. You can instantly capture 3D models of objects and people for import into CAD and for 3D printing. You can play mind blowing augmented reality games where the real world is your game world.
Technical Specs of 3D sensor
As it is a mobile device, the rage of structure sensor is optimized according to that. The minimum range is 40 centimeters and it reached up to 3.5 meters. The sensor gets energy through battery and can stay active for at least 4 hours. The standby time of the battery of this sensor is 1000+hours. There is also dual infrared LEDs which will allow to get 3D scan of objects in night visions and also offer you night vision facility in other cases.

Currently, this structure sensor is compatible with only iPad 4 but according to the team, the sensor can stream data to any iOS device which uses lightning connector like iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c or iPad mini. If you want to connect this with an Android device, you will have to take assistance of USB OTG adapter. According to developers, they will also offer an open 3D CAD model which can be used to work with your device.
